One of the stories in the Bible that has always stood out to me is that of Martha and Mary.

Jesus at the House of Mary and Martha ~ Harold Copping (via)
When Jesus goes to visit the sisters, Mary sits at the feet of Jesus, taking in His every word, while Martha works diligently in the kitchen. When Martha realizes she is doing all the work, she approaches Jesus, asking Him, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” (Luke 10:40). As you may remember, Jesus responds to Martha by saying, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42).

As somebody who loves to throw Pinterest-perfect parties and gettogethers, this struck a cord with me. Why do I stress out about all these little things, when only ONE thing is truly important? I realized that I can't be the only one who struggles with this, and that is why I started Living Like Martha.

My hope in starting this website is to give other Catholic (and Protestant) mothers a community for sharing tips, tricks, and inspiration for simpler entertaining, cooking, decorating, and living our lives as daughters of Christ. Let us come together to enjoy what is truly important and to Live Like Martha!

This website is dedicated in loving memory of my Grandmas Mitz (who always had fresh-baked cookies and cinnamon rolls ready for her 25 grandchildren) and Velora (who always served her famous fried chicken on place settings in the dining room), as well as my Great Aunt Millie (who believed in having fresh cut flowers on her dining room table and always had Oreos on hand for guests).
